Non-directional antenna

Monitored on the Global Tuners receiver in Grand Junction, Colorado

SINPO: 43434

CBK came through loud and strong at a distance of almost 900 miles, which would make sense considering the orientation of the dipole antenna.  The news was announced with mention of a fire in Manitoba, an oil spill near the New Zealand coast, anti-war demonstrations at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. and at locations in Canada, and other news.  The station ID "CBC Radio One" was announced; on this frequency, the transmission emanates from Saskatchewan.

Up next was programming from ABC Radio Australia, "The Philosopher's Zone" pertaining to Baruch Spinoza.  After this concluded, programming from Deutsche Welle ("DW Radio") ensued, which ended with a German song.  An announcement for the CBC Short Story Prize was given.  The news was given at the top of the hour, with more information about the aforementioned Manitoba fire.  Some fading kicked in at this point.

The signal was generally strong except when some fading occurred.  There was persistent interference in the background, though the signal from CBK overpowered the other stations.  There was some noise, but it did not interfere with reception quality for the most part.

A short clip of the transmission with station ID can be accessed
here (from just after 4 AM local time) and
here (at 5 AM local time).
(May need to increase the volume control on your computer.)

The station’s web site is linked here.

Here is a virtual screenshot of the receiver (actually an ICOM PCR-1000
with a dipole antenna aimed east/west) from Global Tuners (click to enlarge):
