WSYR

Syracuse, New York
570 kHz (AM)
5 kW (unlimited)
Directional antenna, varying by time of day

Monitored on the Global Tuners receiver in Boutiliers Point, Nova Scotia
at 0504 (UTC) = 1:04 AM (Eastern)
Friday, September 30, 2011 (Eastern)
SINPO:  22322

This frequency at this time had at least four stations competing for my attention.  WSYR was underneath the stronger WMCA, a religious station in Kearny, New Jersey; CFCB, a country music station in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada; and Radio Reloj in Santa Clara, Cuba, with tick-tocks every second and "RR" in Morse Code every minute.

Still, WSYR punched through at four minutes after the hour, with a station ID by a male announcer, followed by weather from a female announcer (Stella ___?).  She mentioned "central New York" and the station's FM frequency 106.9 as well as the AM frequency.  The male announcer then continued.  The signal was otherwise weak and faded considerably.

A short clip of the transmission with station ID can be accessed here.

A longer clip with all of the above-listed stations fading in and out can be accessed here.
(May need to increase the volume control on your computer in either case.)

The station’s web site is linked here.

Here is a virtual screenshot of the receiver (actually an ICOM PCR-1000
with a loop antenna aimed for NE/SW signals -- see signal path below)

I sent a request for a QSL via U.S. mail on October 3, 2011.
I will post it here as soon as it arrives.
